A Miracle: 90 Minutes in Heaven

90 Minutes in Heaven by Don Piper
Publisher: Revell September 1, 2004

Summary:
This novel starts off with the accident of Don Piper. It was one regular day of ministry for Don Piper as he was released early from a Baptist General Convention Conference in Texas due to weather conditions. As he was on his way home he decided to take a different route as the one that he usually chose and in this route he had to cross a bridge. While he was crossing the bridge an eighteen wheeler driven by an inmate from a jail hit his car head on and killed Don instantly and from one second to the next Don was in heaven.

The next couple of chapters talked about Don's experience in heaven, how perfect it was. For not one second was Don sad, all his worries vanished and he was united with those people who affected him becoming a christian. Don said what he remembered the best was the non stop music admiring God in heaven. Don said he walked toward the light which he presumed as God and just as he almost reached it he was back at earth.
Don was in terrible condition, he had a broken bone in his right leg, two inches of each bone in his forearm were missing, and four and a half inches of his femur on his left leg was missing. It was a miracle, doctors had no explanation on how he survived. The rest of his novel talks mostly about his recovery. When Don recovered he went around talking to people who had major accident like his and he continued with his priesthood.

Quote:
"I Still didn't know why but the joyousness of the place wiped away any questions. Everything felt blissful. Perfect."

Reaction:
This quote appeared when Don was in heaven and it described his feelings. I feel as this quote is very powerful on the theme of this novel. It explains how God can cure everything, how happy you are if you have God in your life. Even though Don left all his loved ones back on earth he was not sad, he didn't have any questions, any worries, but he was the happiest he has ever been and that really shows the power of God.

  2. Don remained a faithful preacher and follower, but coming back to earth from Heaven only brought Don more agony because all Don wanted was to go back to Heaven.

The lesson this book brings is to never loose faith and to know that God is always with you no matter the situation.
